The Ecodesign directive is the legislative framework that sets requirements for all energy-related products in the domestic, commercial and industrial sector, across the EU. The new EU regulation 2019/1781 will apply from 1 July 2021 onwards. The new regulation contains the use of an eco-design of electric motors and drives in order to reduce electricity usage and CO² emission. What does this mean for the engines that you can purchase from MAK? You will read it in this article below.
Sustainable development never stops. Sustainability within the development of electric motors and drives will become more important subject. The new version, IE3, makes it possible to reduce the electricity usage and the CO² emission through the new ecological design.
What are the requirements
This is valid for:
The following are excluded:
The requirements are gradually becoming more strict. The new ecological design, IE3, is not optimized yet. The more sustainable and future oriented model, IE4, is already in sight. The IE4 will become mandatory in 2021, for motors with a capacity of 75 – 200 kW.
Information on the part-load losses of the motor during inverter should be available from July 1st, 2022 onwards. MAK Aandrijvingen will of course keep you up to date.
Our partners Motovario, WattDrive/WEG and Carpanelli have fully implemented the requirements of the new regulations within their production processes and products already. Electric motors that include the IE2 or IE3 efficiency class are available at MAK Aandrijvingen.
